Is Facial Rejuvenation a
new technique?
For thousands of years the theories of TCM have held
that beauty comes from within. At least as early as the Sung dynasty
(960 AD – 1270 AD) acupuncture rejuvenation was being administered
to the Empress and the Emperor’s concubines. The Chinese discovered
and utilized methods to change the flow of energy in the body to initiate
the healing process for rejuvenation. TCM states “Where QI goes,
blood flows.” Even for those not familiar with the principles
of TCM, it is known that an increase in circulation helps the body look
and feel better. Therefore it follows that treating the underlying causes
of aging is preferable to masking or solely treating the outward symptoms
of aging and allowing the further decline and dysfunction to continue
in the body.

What can FRA improve?
FRA is used for those with deep wrinkles, fine lines,
bags under the eyes, sagging, puffiness, drooping of the eyelids, double
chins, large pores, dry skin or acne. Treatment is tailored to the needs
of how each individual is manifesting the signs of aging. For example,
different points and techniques are used for those with puffiness than
for those with dry skin. The whole person is evaluated and treated on
the basis of the body/mind continuum, the foundation of both TCM, and
Holistic Medicine.

Why choose Facial Rejuvenation
Acupuncture over surgical procedures and injections?
While FRA is not a replacement for surgery, it is an
excellent holistic alternative. It is safe, virtually painless, has
no side effects or risk of disfigurement that are associated with surgery
and some injections. Treatment with acupuncture and herbs/supplements
is far less expensive and has the added benefit of improving health.
Unlike surgical procedures, which usually include an extended period
of healing and recovery from swelling and discoloration, there is no
trauma from the acupuncture treatments. While FRA cannot reshape one’s
nose or one’s chin, it is a more subtle rejuvenation that progressively
takes years off one’s face – safely and naturally, while
improving overall health.

Is Facial Rejuvenation
Acupuncture really effective?
Yes. A 1996 report in the International Journal of
Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated with facial
acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment. The
effects included: the skin becoming more delicate and fair, improvement
of elasticity in the facial muscles, leveling of wrinkles, a ruddier
(a healthy reddish glow) complexion, and an overall rejuvenation not
confined to the face. It also helps the whole body feel better. Using
acupuncture for facial rejuvenation promotes total body wellness as
a result of the profound effect it has on balancing, removing blockages
and adding energy where needed. Many historical references show that
TCM has been used for more than 5,000 years to treat a wide variety
of conditions. It has proven itself on billions of people and passed
the test of time. Currently in Japan, Hong Kong and Sweden, the use
of cosmetic acupuncture is attracting a great deal of attention, especially
for preventing and reducing wrinkles.

What are the
contraindications?
FRA is contraindicated for some pituitary disorders,
heart disorders, diabetes mellitus, uncontrolled high blood pressure,
users of pacemakers, those who have problems with bleeding, bruising,
or who are currently suffering from migraine headaches. FRA should not
be done during pregnancy, during a cold or flu, or an outbreak of herpes.

Who is qualified to administer
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture?
FRA should only be performed by a specially trained
and certified licensed acupuncturist. Relatively few acupuncturists
have specialized training in FRA. For best results, one should seek
out a practitioner who has been trained by an expert in the field.
